Bunratty Castle
Bunratty Castle is one of the best surviving examples of an Irish tower house. It is hard to believe that the castle has had a bloody and violent history. Its strategic position on the river Shannon made it the centre of many a battle, and it has it has been destroyed and re-built on at least eight occasions.

Bunratty Folk Park
The Bunratty Folk Park adjoins the castle and aims to show rural and urban life in 19th century. It contains reconstructed farmhouses, cottages and shops and is a living museum, animals are tended, bread is baked, milk is churned, walls are whitewashed and roofs are thatched.

Directions from Shannon Airport: - At the airport, take the 1st exit of the roundabout onto the N19. - At the next 2 roundabouts, take the 2nd exit for the N19. - At Shannon town roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the N19 (signposted Galway, Limerick). - At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit and then merge onto the N18. - Continue along the N18 until you see a sign for Bunratty village on the left, and take the slip road off the dual carriageway. - Proceed into Bunratty village and the Bunratty Shannon Shamrock hotel is located on the left. Directions from Limerick: - Take the N18 from Limerick and proceed until you see an overpass ahead with a sign for Bunratty village - Turn left onto a slip road and then proceed over the overpass and continue into Bunratty village.
